Christmas shopping is a wonderful tradition for many, but these gifts are all the more important when they are in the central part of the state. Discover southern Illinois, home to the Shawnee National Forest, while Springfield is just a few miles from the Illinois State Capitol and the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. South Elgin is a suburb in the far west of Chicago, but is located a little south of it in Illinois and is served by the University of Illinois in Urbana - Champaign and the Illinois State Capitol in Chicago. It is a great place to see the past and present of the Indians and has great historical and nature exhibits, including the Underground Adventure. Another notable site in the Pullman Historic District is the Robert E. Randolph Museum of African American Labor, which focuses on African-American labor history. Finally, there are many interesting attractions, including a Mississippi River Valley museum, Illinois State Capitol and the South Elgin Museum.

The reserve also includes the South Elgin Museum of Natural History, a museum of crushed limestone, the Illinois State Capitol and other historic sites.

Heading west on Bluff Road to visit Keepataw Preserve is a great way to visit the historic town of Lemont across the river. Before leaving the area, be sure to visit one of the most important historical sites in South Elgin, the Lincoln Memorial. While in the grounds of the President's residence, check-in is also possible at the Illinois State Capitol and other historic sites such as the US Capitol. In Springfield, Lincoln Park is also worth a visit, where the president-elect gave a farewell speech in 1861 before heading to Washington, D.C.
